1. Key Features

  1. 3.5” colour display with glass touch panel
  2. Contactless payment tap zone
  3. Power / Sleep / Wake / Reset button
  4. Status light (only visible when illuminated)
  5. Serial number label
  6. USB (type C) recharge port (under rubber flap)
  7. Tether point for wrist strap and / or palm strap
  8. 12V recharge contacts (for use with Countertop stand accessory)

2. Turning On / Off, Waking Up

Turning ON

To turn on the terminal, press the large ‘Power’ button for a few seconds. Once display turns on, release the button and allow 1-2 minutes for terminal to load and connect to a network.

If terminal does not turn on as expected, the battery may be depleted. Scroll to Section 3, Charging the terminal. The terminal will start automatically once it has enough battery charge to begin its load process. Leave on charge for at least 2 hours.

Waking up

If the terminal is ON but the display is dim or OFF, simply press the ‘Power’ button momentarily to wake the terminal up (display will turn on immediately).

Turning OFF

Enter the Software menu by holding the ‘Power’ button down for a few seconds. Tap the [Power] icon to bring up the options. Slide the [Power] icon to the left and release. The shut down process will begin.

Note: If you attempt to turn off the terminal whilst it is charging, the terminal will restart automatically after a short period. This is normal behavior. To turn the terminal off completely, remove terminal from charge.

Rebooting terminal if unresponsive

In the rare event that the terminal is on but unresponsive, a reboot can be triggered by holding down the ‘Power’ button for > 10 seconds. When the screen goes blank, release the button.

3. Charging the terminal

The terminal can be charged by plugging the Quest supplied USB-C cable into the back of the terminal. The USB Socket is located under the rubber flap. Simply pick out the left most edge of the flap and fold out the way. Plug the small (USB-C) end of the supplied cable into the terminal. Plug the large (USB Type A) end into the supplied 5V, 2.1A power supply (replacements available from Donation Point Tap Shop).

Note: If the terminal is OFF, and then placed on charge, the terminal will turn on automatically. If left untouched, the screen will dim in brightness and after further inactivity the display will turn off whilst continuing to recharge. The status light will illuminate to indicate the terminal is ON, but idle/asleep. See ‘Understanding the Status Light’ section below to understand more about the status light and what the colours and modes mean.

Low Power Alerts
An alert will pop-up on the terminal when the battery level is getting low. The status light also provides a visual alert on low battery status.
Understanding the Status Light
The status light is positioned above the display in the top left hand corner. In a mobile terminal, the status light indicates battery charging status, and alerts of a critically low capacity battery. See table for more detail:

4. Connecting to the internet

The Donation Point terminal must connect to the internet in order to process transactions and receive updates. You can choose to use secure Wi-Fi (must be password protected) or the 4G cellular network with the Optus SIM we provide.

Using a Wi-Fi connection will allow the terminal to update its software and configuration quickly if required.

5. Understanding the status bar icons on the display

When the device is ON and idle, the battery status will be displayed in the top right hand corner of the screen.

  1. Time of Day (controlled by the Acquirer host, NOT set on terminal)
  2. WiFi signal strength (if WiFi is enabled)
  3. Cellular signal strength (if Cellular is enabled)
  4. Terminal is receiving charge
  5. Battery charge level indicator

6. Using the Touch Screen

Using the touchscreen is just like using a modern smartphone. A light tap with your finger on an icon will trigger that action. Some screen pages within the software application like the menu, may be long and will require you to scroll the information up into view. To do this, place one fingertip on the screen and drag your finger up or down the screen.

If the touchscreen becomes unresponsive for some reason, a restart may be required. Scroll up to Section 2. Turning On/Off, Waking Up on restarting your terminal.

7. Sounds

The terminal uses basic sounds for errors and successes. Sound volume and tone is NOT configurable.

8. Recognising Alerts. What is a tamper? What to do if a unit tampers?

If the terminal detects any attempt to modify it, then it will respond by ‘tampering’. The terminal indicates a tamper response by displaying a message once the event has occurred, regardless of whether the terminal is powered up. When the device tampers it erases all sensitive information, such as the Acquirer keys used for transaction processing. The device will not be able to perform any transactions from this point on, and needs to be returned to Quest for investigation and reset.

9. Mobile Variant - Fitting Palm Strap & Wrist lanyard

When using the Donation terminal in a mobile setting, Quest recommends purchase of the Mobile Case with Hand Strap Accessory.  It is good practice to use both the wrist lanyard and palm strap to minimise the chance of dropping the terminal. The palm strap allows you to comfortably slip your hand between the terminal or you can grasp the strap like a carry handle. The wrist lanyard will prevent the terminal from dropping to the ground in the event that the terminal is knocked or has slipped out of your hand, just like a pocket camera.

Fitting the wrist lanyard

  1. Feed the small loop through lowest tether point
  2. Feed the large loop back through the small loop and pull through entirely. Assembly complete

Fitting the palm strap

The palm strap allows you to grasp the terminal in a few extra ways.

  1. Peel open the velcro on the main wrap
  2. Feed small strap through lowest tether point, and close off
  3. Feed long strap through uppermost tether point (leave open)
  4. To achieve correct tightness with hand, place hand under the strap and close the long strap at a comfortable tightness
  5. To finish, close the main wrap
